Hiking-

Running-

Sewing

And so it begins…

Here I am! Attempting to blog, which is hilarious all by itself as I am definitely NOT a writer. I do, however, consider myself to be a creative person. Writing, generally, is not my thing, but crafting something is totally my jam. Ever since I was old enough to hold a crayon, I’ve been creating something!

Little Me

In March of 2020, I really took a liking to sewing. I had a small, inexpensive sewing machine, but sewing wasn’t something I really did all that much, if ever. However, my friends were always creating these beautiful quilts and bags, so I thought I’d give it a try. I tried it and I was absolutely hooked. “But there’s SO MUCH to learn”, I kept thinking. Sometimes it makes my head spin! It has challenged my brain in ways that I didn’t think were possible! And yet, it also has fed my creative soul.

My first finished quilt!

In the past year I’ve met some pretty incredible people (mostly virtually) who are avid quilters and creators and feel very lucky to have stumbled into this new hobby. It ties in nicely with running since it forces me to slow down and be still for a while – which, if you’re a runner, you know how hard it is to keep still. Sewing quiets my mind. And conversely, when I’m running, I find sewing inspiration in ordinary things. I’ll look at a road marking and think, “Ooooh that geometric shape would make an interesting quilt block!”

In the past year, I’ve also rekindled my love of hiking. It had been nearly 10 years since my last hike to the Mt. Rainier area – which is far too long! I managed to squeak in 5 hikes over the summer. I definitely will be planning for much more hiking in the future, when I’m not running or sewing.

I don’t really have a solid blogging plan at this point. Just kinda trying things out and sharing my love of sewing, running and hiking! Who knows where this will lead, but I’m excited to start!
